The Shibaura Institute of Technology (芝浦工業大学) is a private university of Technology in Japan, with campuses located in Tokyo and Saitama. It is the only private technology university in Japan to be selected for the Top Global University Project.
The university ranks moderately high in the Japanese university rankings, with an average selection rate of 25% based on entrance examinations.
Shibaura Institute of Technology’s main campus is located in the Toyosu district of Kōtō, Tokyo. The nearest station is Toyosu Station.
Apart from the main campus in Toyosu, there are 2 other campuses. The Omiya Campus in Saitama, and the Shibaura Campus in Minato, Tokyo. All undergraduates spend the first 2 years at the Omiya Campus, and then move to a different campus depending on their major. Students of the College of Systems Engineering and Science will spend all 4 years at the Omiya Campus.
A RESEARCH INTERNSHIP PROGRAM IN A LABORATORY
Research Internship Program
My research object is to develop a virtual reality concert which brings us to participate in simulate concert on game engine with a VR glass in the viewpoint of an audience and have more fun in the environment.
That is a Gesture Control Armband, product name is Myo. This device receives signals generated from movement of the arm muscles. So that players have more emotional with virtual reality concert, so Brain Computer Interface can used to control the effect of Visual Effect.
This is Steps to use with BCI. I implemented the proposed system composed of a simple eeg recorder , tablet used BCI Application , 3D game engine in PC , Display Environment. This flow show steps for using brainwaves to make interactive with game engine.
First, an Android application running on smart tablet receives row signal from the simple EEG recorder via Bluetooth. The application detects beta/alpha rations from the row signals. The beta/alpha rations was reconstructed from the row signals by using FFT (Fast Fourier Transform) algorithms. Depending on beta/alpha rations, the application generates one-byte commands, when the application sends the one-byte commands to a server running on PC via TCP/IP. As I explained, an application of a virtual reality concert developed by 3D game development unity is running on PC. The server will converted the one-byte commands on cmd_keyboard to operating commands of the game engine, In the game application, the operating commands is generating visual effects in the virtual reality concert. A display environment displays the advance of the virtual reality concert.
Experience in term of Culture Awareness and Internationalization
At first, Japanese Concentration. I was impressed with various aspects such as the services of the Japanese peoples are very attentive to every detail they have performed for one job. It shows the willingness to work a lot to get done.
Although we can see that Japanese people are very determined to work very hard. But he is very flexible with time, by the time they quit working. They also have a relaxing time such as Party in the lab
Finally, Japanese punctuality. When it is time for him to do something, he must go on time, or arrive before time. There was very little too late.

Orientation Lecture by SIT President

Today is the first day at university. This is orientation lecture by the primary Modulator that has served this Lee-san. On the first greetings, It has been announced who will be in which lab. And Lee-san has provided information about the colleges. Such as store location, health care room, convenience store and important points available on campus. And Lee-san has distributed the student card of this university. And he has describes internet registration, email, or programs that are accessible. After Lee-san has been provided. It’s time to meet SIT President Masato Murakami. He told stories about the university. And talked about the projects he has researched.

Today was the first day to meet supervisor is Professor Ryota Horie, we have introduced. And introduce members in lab My lab is the Department of Communication Engineering, which is a reference to the BCI system, Virtual Reality, game engine. By today my supervisor have introduction about Brain wave signals and materials for development. And after having clarified about the time spent working in the laboratory. And it is a matter of preparing the materials to be used in the project. I was chosen main device a Gesture Control Armband, product name is Myo. First day at work it’s a day for us to prepare the environment for the project. And my supervisor was assigned to do about. How realize an immersive virtual reality concert from the view point of an audience. My research object is to develop a virtual reality concert which brings us to participate in simulate concert on game engine with a VR glass in the viewpoint of an audience and have more fun in the environment.

Last day to stay in laboratory

It was the last day to meet the supervisor and stay at the lab. Today is a farewell and take me to eat lunch at Tsukiji Market.
Weekly Nishi- Kawaguchi
Weekly Mansion, use a two-minute walk from Nishi Kawaguchi Station East exit on the JR Keihin Tohoku Line. My room on the 7th floor is 2DK, has 5 people. This room is for a large group or a large family. We offer overnight accommodations. Daily necessities are fully equipped. Basic necessities are fully equipped. Such as a television set, a telephone, an air-conditioner, a refrigerator, a vacuum cleaner, a microwave oven, a rice cooker, tableware, a set of bedding, etc. and a fiber optic Internet connection is always available free of charge. Can use a LAN cable free of charge and Wi-fi is available free of charge, too.
Some days, I buy raw materials to do my own room to save money. But some days, eating outside, around the accommodation, there will be many restaurants. And there is a super market for raw materials or fast food. There will be discount for meals as well.
In Japan, we normally use a train for the main public transport. It costs around 10680 JPY for a monthly ticket from the apartment to the university with approximately 1.30 hour spends.
The first problem of internet dorm. At first, it solved the problem by using the phone’s network to share a hot spot to the computer to work. And in the latter, I have to buy a LAN cable to plug directly into LAN to have a stable internet.
The second problem of the bathroom is a single room in dorm. In the bathroom, there will be both a bath and a toilet. When the roommate was having a shower, we want to use the toilet, but we could not go to the bathroom. solved the problem by we have to ask for a friend’s room bathroom, or go to the convenience store near the accommodation.
Last problem of communication. Conversation with the Japanese is difficult if we cannot speak Japanese. Because of Japanese accents, when speaking English, they do not understand. I had solved the problem by used some Japanese mixed with English to communication.
BENEFITS OF A RESEARCH INTERNSHIP PROGRAM
I got a new experience. Because this is first time in my life that I have gone abroad. Working with foreigners gives us new knowledge and develops new technology. Then I was added more skills. And learn about new cultures.
Then the benefit to the Faculty is to bring the name of the college and the faculty to the internship in Japan. And we brought the Thai culture to exchange with the Japanese.
